Getting paid
I know I drove a sale and it is not here
Why tracking leaks, and what to do about it.
First: give it seven days. Retailers report on their own schedule and some take the full week. A sale that is not visible on day two is usually just a sale that has not been reported yet.
After that, the honest answer is that affiliate tracking leaks, everywhere, for everyone. It depends on connecting a tap to a purchase that may happen days later on a different device, and there are several places that connection can break:
- Another link was clicked after yours. Almost every programme credits the last link before checkout. If she clicked yours, then someone else's, the sale is theirs.
- She declined cookies on the retailer's site, so there was nothing to store.
- She switched device. Clicked on her phone at lunch, bought on a laptop that evening.
- She bought in the retailer's app, which often cannot carry web tracking.
- A shopping extension like Honey or a cashback site overwrote the attribution at checkout.
- It was your own purchase. Most programmes exclude a creator buying through her own link.
This is why discount codes matter. A code cannot be overwritten, does not depend on cookies, and survives a device switch, because the shopper types it at checkout. If you drive a lot of sales to one brand, ask them for a code - it is the easiest thing they can give you, and it closes most of the leak.
If you believe a qualifying order is genuinely missing after seven days, tell us the retailer, the rough date and the amount, and we will check the report against your clicks.
